Welcome to 6th grade! My name is Becki Conner! I am excited about this new challenge teaching 6th grade!
A bit about me... I have 2 children. Caitlin, my daughter is 18 and a freshman at Sacramento State University. She graduated in June from Lincoln High and is enjoying the new college scene. My son, Adam is 21 and lives in Monterey. He is working and part-time attending Monterey Peninsula College. I was born and raised in Monterey. I moved to Stockton three years ago after getting remarried. My husband's aunt and uncle live here and teach for Lincoln Unified and Delta College.
I have been working in the classroom since my senior year of high school. I started out at a sign-language interpreter and moved on to teaching the deaf and hard of hearing. I worked for fifteen year in special education. Then I decided to challenge myself and went back to school to finish my teaching credential to teach regular education. I also have a Master's Degree in Reading. I have had the privilege of teaching reading at Delta College as well. I have co-authored eight books for teachers through the Evan Moor Publishing Company. The math books are award-winners! What an exciting endevour that was! Due to the state budget cuts, I was reassigned to teaching 6th grade from my 2nd/3rd multiage here at Don Riggio. I am eager to learn the new curriculum! We have lots of exciting topics to discover.
I am also an insulin dependent diabetic. I wear an insulin pump and have discussed this with the students. I talked about how I became diabetic and the risks and complications I at times face.
